If you lived in North County anytime from the 1960s through the 1980s, you will instantly know what I mean when I say “Top of the Tower.” This prominent local landmark, built in 1964 and still standing in Moline Acres, was once the home of an upscale penthouse restaurant by the same name.
I went there before prom one year, when it was still a pretty swanky place. What a view! Today, of course, the restaurant is long gone and the Top of the Tower building has lost much of its luster. Most of the floors are condos or offices, and the penthouse is sitting unused. But get this….the restaurant space is now for sale! It just hit the market today, for the bargain price of $19,500.
My friend and fellow blogger Toby Weiss has published two wonderful articles on the history of the building, including this recent one with a load of interior pics. I’m not sure how suitable the penthouse still is for a restaurant, but with enough money and a creative vision, who knows….
