Grab Bag: A Baker’s (Half) Dozen

7726 Virginia, South City – As you may have read by now, the oldest bakery in St. Louis is officially for sale. Open since 1875, the Carondelet Bakery has been in the same family for 40 years, and now owners Bob & Linda Smith are hoping a like-minded soul will buy the property and carry on its fresh-baked tradition. The sale includes the 2500-square-foot bakery space as well as two floors above dedicated to a beautiful 3000-square-foot residence. You also get a two-car garage and two open lots on either side of the building. But if you want the bakery’s original recipes, you’ll have to negotiate! Listed by Ryan Gehris, Housepad, for $579,900.

13085 Old Halls Ferry, Black Jack – OK, this one kinda breaks my heart. I grew up near this quirky old stone house in North County, always wondering what it’s story is. Now I know it was built in 1935, sits on 1.56 acres, and is now being sold as a foreclosure at the rock bottom price of $44,000. Wow, what a deal! This section of Old Halls Ferry has such a nice, rural feel, and the house itself has big rooms and loads of potential. 2240sf, 3+1, listed yesterday by Cheryl Rabin, Real Home Service & Solutions.

4650 Cecil, South City – This 1915 brick charmer just went up today and I predict it sells in a flash! Not only does it sit on a big ol’ double lot with gorgeous landscaping, but it also offers 2200 square feet of perfectly updated living space. The historic details are still present and adding lots of great character, but I’m loving the newer additions as well, especially the stone fireplaces! 4+2, $165,000, listed yesterday by Jenifer Garcia, Garcia Properties. Open Sunday, April 7, 1-3pm.

A 1 acre lot with easy Highway access and also access to Carlyle

11622 Lakeshore, Creve Coeur – Ooh, here’s a gorgeous mid-century house! Built in 1960, this sprawling multi-level backs to Westwood Country Club, so pretty much the entire back of the home is a wall of windows that lets you enjoy the view. I see a few cosmetic updates that are probably needed (kitchen, carpet, whatnot) but otherwise this is a fantastic property on 1 acre in a prime central location. Just listed yesterday and I bet it goes under contract quickly! 3798 square feet, 5+3.5, $499,900, listed by Shawn Kelsey, Keller Williams.

Front Elevation

5946 Briarmist, Mehlville – Fair warning, this house has one ugly dated kitchen! 1980s all the way. But the vaulted ceilings in the living area, and the rustic lodge feel overall, definitely have me seeing potential. Especially since the lot is wooded and the Kennedy Rec Complex is just a couple minutes away. 2633 square feet, 3+3, $250,000. Just listed today by Dianne Meine, Prudential.

3965 Connecticut, South City – I wasn’t going to tell you about this super cool house in Tower Grove South, because it’s a perfect fit for one of my clients. But it went under contract almost immediately, so now I might as well share. Built in 1922, it looks like a classic city bungalow from the front, but there’s a contemporary addition on the back that will knock your socks off. Seriously, check out the photosListing by Sarah Foley, Circa Properties.

If you’d like a buyer’s agent to show you any of these unique houses, give me a call! I also have plenty more properties in mind for buyers who are looking for something a little different!
