When I tell you where this house is located, most of you will say hell no. But for the more adventurous souls out there (or those who know & love the Ferguson area), may I present this fabulous vintage/contemporary sitting on a lush 1/4-acre lot in Dellwood. I was there yesterday, and it’s a real gem.
I’ve always been a huge fan of South Schlueter, this quiet, dead-end street where all of the houses are unique and most of the lots are quite large. It’s like a hidden slice of country right in the middle of suburbia, and it’s only one street away from Ferguson. So close that it even has a Ferguson zip code.
This particular property – #56 – was built in 1940 as a sweet little brick bungalow. Then in 1981, somebody decided to raise the roof and convert it to a modern/rustic abode, creating kind of a lodge feel inside. The main floor is a bit choppy but the kitchen is nice and it opens onto an awesome screened-in porch and deck…
And the upstairs…well, I think it’s just straight up cool. Tall ceilings, lots of windows, even a loft sleeping area accessible only by ladder…
There’s also some nice finished space in the walk-out basement, including a full bath. And the yard is deep, wooded and lovely…
Now, do I wish this fun, quirky property was located in Ferguson (or somewhere else) instead of Dellwood? And would I make cosmetic updates and probably build a garage? Yes, absolutely. But I dare you to find another house this interesting, on a lot this large, in this kind of condition, for $114,500!
56 S. Schlueter has 3 bedrooms & 3 baths in 1792 square feet. It’s listed by my good friend Pearce Neikirk of Pearce Neikirk & Partners.
